Requirements to strengthen the modal shift approach in the Alpine Region The role of modal shift for a sustainable and future-proof freight transport system in the Alps Modal shift is THE key rationale for decarbonising and future-proofing freight transport along the Alpine transit corridors. In the Alps and other mountainous regions, the need for action is especially high to accelerate the net-zero transition.

iMONITRAF! meets “Friends of EUSALP”: Sustainable connectivity in the Alps requires a strong modal

The current revision process of the TEN-T offers an important window-of-opportunity to better incentivize modal shift on the European transport network. Especially the trans-alpine infrastructures are crucial elements within the TEN-T network and the Alpine regions require a strong European framework to make the new rail infrastructures fully operational. During an event of the “Friends of EUSALP” group of the European Parliament, iMONITRAF! joined representatives of the EUSALP regions to discuss the current revision process of the TEN-T and how it can better serve the modal shift rationale.

iMONITRAF! Annual Report 2022

Throughout the year 2022, the iMONITRAF! network has used its expertise to support a more ambitious implementation of policy measures and to ensure that Alpine needs are considered in the revision process of the TEN-T Regulation as important interface with EU decision making as well as the Simplon Alliance. More information on this new set of target indicators and on the other comprehensive networking activities at EU and national level are summarized in the Annual Report 2022.

Lunch Event in Brussels 2021

iMONITRAF!, the network of the most affected Alpine transit regions is dedicated to an ambitious modal shift policy for the decarbonisation of the transport sector. During the Lunch Event, which took place in Brussels and online on November 9th, political representatives from the iMONITRAF! regions discussed the Alpine viewpoint with Members of the European Parliament and invited stakeholders to find common solutions and to identify windows-of-opportunity in the EU legislative framework.
